France Security for Yachts

Overall Crime and Safety

France is generally a safe place for travelers, however, pickpockets and scam artists are common, particularly in larger towns and cities where there are lots of tourists.

Maritime Issues

Cote d'Azure: Police in the south of France report that thieving spikes during the summer months. Cruisers have reported theft from boats in Marina Vauban, Antibes.

ORCA Interactions: Since 2020 orcas have been interacting with yachts under 15m off the western coast of the Iberian peninsula and even Brittany, northern France. See the Orca page on Noonsite for details and resources for locating orcas and how to deal with interactions. Coastal warnings are also published on NAVTEX when orca positions are reported.
