There are three locks through the Barrage and they operate 24 hours a day. There is a marina at Penarth, which is to port just inside the Barrage, and visitors' berths on the opposite bank of the River Ely, at the Cardiff Bay Yacht Club. To the north, across the bay in the old Graving Dock No.1, are pontoons for visiting yachtsmen to enable them to moor right in the heart of the city.
