Docking in Dover

Dover port has undergone major changes over the last 2 years, resulting in a new Outer Marina (in the inner harbour) with associated restaurants, bars and activities, plus a new locked entrance to Wellington dock, via the outer marina, which offers additional berth availability and a boatyard. There are plenty of visitor berths in the Outer Marina - booking is not necessary.

See Entrance Notes and Cautions for the entry procedure into Dover harbour.

Permission must be obtained BEFORE entering (or leaving), by calling Dover VTS on VHF channel 74.

The Port of Dover is cashless.

Dover Marina

Dover has an Outer Harbour containing the ferry and deep water commercial berths and an Inner Harbour containing the new Outer Marina.

Yachts are often met at the harbour entrance by a harbour control launch and advised on suitable berthing.

The new Outer Marina is part of the TransEurope group and has 250 berths accessible at all states of tide. Can accommodate vessels up to 30m Loa and a maximum draft of 3.5m. This is a full-facility marina (see Marina Guide 2025). Visitors are berthed in the Outer Marina.

There is an anchorage in the outer harbour, but permission to anchor must be granted first by the Harbour Master. It is generally uncomfortable due to the constant movement of ferries. Anchored boats cannot be left unattended.

Wellington Dock

Closure and infilling of Granville Dock, Wick channel and associated basins is now complete.

Wellington Dock is located in the tidal basin and offers 135 pontoon berths. It can accommodate vessels up to 24m LOA with a maximum draft of 2.7m. Water levels are maintained at a minimum of 3m and access is via a lock. Access is available 24 hours a day. The locking procedure can be found on page 39 of the Marina Guide.

There are also new boatyard facilities located at Wellington Dock (50 ton hoist), accessible via the new Outer Marina.
