Glasgow & the Firth of Clyde - Local Customs

Nov 17, 2025
Description: With its many sea lochs, islands and wonderful scenery, the Firth of Clyde provides a great cruising area.

Peel Ports Clyde are proposing introducing a fee to sail in the Firth of Clyde. This will make it impossible to even transit the area without paying either £90.00 for the summer or £120.00 for the year. Getting to / from the Crinan Canal means you will be forced to pay the transit fee. The area covered by the fee prevents any free navigation area. The fee will be applicable to all flags, not just UK registered vessels. There has been much opposition from the local boating community and as of November 2025 the fee has not yet been introduced.

Further info. will be posted if/when the fee is implemented.

Position: 55° 55.77'N, 04° 29.07'W (Bowling basin, west entrance Clyde & Forth canal)
