Mobile phone coverage in Papua New Guinea varies significantly between urban and rural areas. While major urban centers like Port Moresby, Lae, and others have good 4G coverage, reaching over 80% of the population, rural areas often experience limited or no service. 3G coverage reaches around 73% of the population

Major towns and cities generally have good 4G coverage, with providers like Digicel and Telikom (now bMobile) expanding their networks.  Coverage in rural areas and the more remote islands is much more sparse, with many regions lacking any mobile phone or internet access.   Only about 27% of Papua New Guineans use the internet, with access being especially limited in rural areas.
