Where is Ua Huka?

Ua Huka is known as the the island of horses. It is a small volcanic island situated between Nuku Hiva, Ua Pou and Hiva Oa, about 1,400 km to the northeast of Tahiti and is the fourth largest of the islands in the archipelago.

Ua Huka is much drier than the other Marquesian islands and has a very different look to it, as a brochure says, its the Wild West of the Marquesas with its dry grasslands and dozens of wild horses and goats dotting the skyline.

Entrance Notes and Cautions for Ua Huka:

The entrance in Vaipaee Bay can be a bit daunting when there are big seas from the south - south east.  The further in the bay, the calmer it becomes.
