Where is Tahuata?

Tahuata is the smallest of the inhabited Marquesas Islands. It is located 4 km to the south of the western end of Hiva Oa, across the Canal du Bordelais, called Ha‘ava in Marquesan. This is a pleasant island with some of the only white sand beaches in the Marquesas.

Entrance Notes and Cautions for Tahuata:

Cruisers report lots of sandy beaches here and if you don't feel comfortable running your dinghy up on steep sandy beaches if there is a swell, it may be easier to anchor off beach and swim in. Vaitehu is one of the main villages on the western side, but it's a small anchorage with a mediocre holding - cruisers are advised to use a stern anchor and beware of wind gusts.

Cruiser Highlights for Tahuata:

There are reported to be resident Manta Rays in Hanamoenoa Bay.

You can get laundry done here! Restaurant Chez Jimmy offers a laundry service.

Position - anchorage:

09° 56.24'S, 139° 06.77'W
