Anchorages on Rurutu:

The island has a fringing coral reef very close to the shore.

Baie Moerai

Moerai has a small harbor but the entrance is only 20 metres wide so is only used by fishing boats and visiting yachts.  The harbour is calm in any wind direction but E and NE as the entrance is open to this direction and when winds are from the E/NE it becomes dangerous with swells which create a lot of surge.   There is a mooring in the middle of the small harbour but cruisers who have visited say it is not safe when there is a swell running. It is possible to moor to the quay with a bow anchor and stern lines.

Baie Avera

On the western side of the island but only possible where there is little or no swell.  There is a pass with two red marks in the bay.  Anchor in a sandy patch in 14 metres just outside the boat pass.
