Island Tours

Tickets for island tours are available on-line at https://rapanuinationalpark.com/ and a guide is required. Nicolás Yancovic Pakarati (AhatsApp +56 9 9832 3876) is recommend as being very knowledgeable about island history and facts and can provide a private or semi-private tour of the island's attractions. He can pick up at any anchorage landing and provide knowledgeable island history and facts.

Other activities

Fishing, skin-diving, scuba diving, swimming, surfing (Haka Nini), body surfing (Haka Ngaru), motu boat tours are activities available if sea conditions permit. The traditional song & dance group Kari Kari presents its show twice a week at night. There are also three discotheques which sometimes offer traditional Polynesian shows. A visit to the artisanal market is a must to see local arts. Some of the artists have also a store in town. Stores are generally open 09:00 - 13:00 and 16:00-20:00. Some grocery stores are open from 20:00 - 24:00 Island maps are available for free at the airport, Conaf offices and some car rental shops. The Chilean tourist information organization called SERNATUR has an office just by the ocean below the town center, at the other side of the road from the resturant Pea. Archaeological tours are the main activity. You can visit the sites in mini-vans (classical tours), rent a vehicle and hire your own guide or go on your own on foot, on a horse, on a bicycle, on a motorbike, on a quad or by car or 4x4 jeep. Some of the main roads are asphalted and very good, some are gravel and mud and the NW section of the island can only be accessed by foot or horseback. A ticket is necessary to visit the archaeological sites of Orongo (Bird men ceremonial houses) and Rano a Raku (where the mohai has been built). It costs US$80 for foreigners. Sometimes the same ticket needs to be shown also to visit other archaeological sites. Cultural festivals are regularly organised, the biggest one is the “Tapati Rapa Nui Festival lasting two weeks in February every year. Last updated:  July 2024
