Where is Hanga Roa?

Hanga Roa lies towards the southern end of the west coast of Easter Island.

It is the island's main settlement and harbor.

Cruiser Highlights for Hanga Roa:

If you make it here you will be warmly welcomed and almost everyone on the island will come and visit you with gifts that may include bananas, vegetables and honey.  Locals seem to appreciate those who arrive by boat and may share their own stories about traveling the Pacific Ocean and navigating by the sun and starts, just as their ancestors had done.

The stone heads (Moai) are a must see.  Local guides will be needed to see some of the historical locations on the island but for others, one isn't needed and you are free to wander on your own.

Position:

27° 09.2'S, 109° 26.2'W.
