Djibouti Yachting Essentials

Electricity

  • Voltage: 220 V
  • Frequency: 50 Hz

LPG

Refills are available, although allow two days for refills as they may have to make gas connections to fit foreign bottles.

Fuel

No fuel berth available to yachts so it has to be transported in cans from the fuel station. Take care that you are not overcharged (for example; 195 DJF may be “translated” to $1,95 (342 DJF)! Taking your jerry cans in a taxi to a fuel station is the cleanest way to get diesel. You will need to ask your agent to arrange this as most taxis won't take diesel.

Water

There may be a vessel anchored in the harbour with bunkered water for sale, but this won't be clean or drinkable.

Low quality water may be available at the dinghy pontoon to fill up jerrycans. This is free, but local boys hanging around will try to charge you for it.

Drinking water can be purchased at the mall or 6-packs of 1.5l bottles can be purchased from one of the small shops at the harbour (close to the dinghy dock).

Large 20+ litre bottles are available, but hard to find.

Provisioning

There is a shopping mall close to the “Port du Peche” with a large range of high-quality products (many French) and prices to match. Canned vegetables are easy to find. Smaller shops downtown sell fruit, vegetables and meat at a quarter of the price, or less.

Garbage

You can dispose of garbage at the dinghy pontoon. Pay a small amount to a local who will dispose of it for you ($1/$2).
