Bahamas - Money

Jul 03, 2025

Bahamas dollar (B$), which is on par with the US dollar.

US$ are widely accepted.

Spend your Bahamian money before you leave the country (or find someone who is willing to change it for you) as the B$ does not hold its value in the US.

MasterCard and Visa are widely accepted in most of the Bahamas except the outer islands; sometimes a surcharge of 5% can be added. American Express and Diners Club are not so widely accepted.

Smaller islands may not take credit card so have cash at hand. It's recommended to arrive with at least US$500 in cash.

Quite often in the outer Bahamas ATM machines are out of order. It's therefore advisable to get cash whenever you find an ATM that works.

Bahamas VAT is 12%.
