Monastir - Clearance

Jul 09, 2024

Customs and Immigration officials are resident at the marina, just a few doors down from the marina office.  Check-in is reported to be straightforward however cruisers do warn of the "baksheesh" culture

The offices are in the white building on the starboard side past the yard and reception dock.

Most cruisers can stay for 90 days - US and Canadian citizens get 120 days.    It is easy to reset the visa by leaving Tunisia - even for a day.  Some cruisers fly out while others take their boat to Malta and back.

If you overstay your visa - an overstay tax will be due and must be paid before you leave.  The tax is 20 TND per person per week or part thereof.

Exit Formalities:

To leave the marina bound for another Tunisian port, you simply advise the Coast Guard (on site, next to the fuel station) before you leave.

To leave the marina and country, advise the Coast Guard the day before your intended departure and then go through clearance with Police and Customs at their office in the marina.  They will inspect your boat before you leave and will also watch you leave.

Read this useful report from Wade and Diana Alarie who stayed at the marina from mid June 2023 to early May 2024.
