Puerta Princesa bay contains the small, but very helpful, Abanico yacht club, located in the NE corner of the harbour. Look out for the blue roof. They monitor VHF channel 72 and can be reached by phone (see their listing below) and the YC will send out a dinghy to guide you in as there are unmarked reefs in the area.
The bay here is a typhoon shelter.
The anchorage is well protected and secure in 8m over sand/mud, and the yacht club will point out where to anchor. To get to the yacht club requires some care and should not be attempted at night.

Take care of your dinghy and outboard and secure them properly at all times. There have been thefts here in the past.

Feedback from cruisers recently clearing out of Puerto Princesa for Kudat (Malaysia Borneo):
As we wanted to see the west coast of Palawan, we sailed down to Ulugan bay and took a Taxi to Puerto Princesa. Left one person on the boat at anchor (have left my boat without anyone aboard few years back with no problems as well).
First step is to get quarantine clearance. It’s housed in a tiny building off PQQ3+RRX, Rizal Avenue, Puerto Princesa, 5300 Palawan, next to the airport. Only takes 10-15 minutes and costs nothing.
Next step is Immigration which is located on the second floor of the Robinsons Mall. They dont need the whole crew to be present, and it took us approx 30 min wait to get papers stamped.
Third step is to go to Customs. As they have a new rule that they need to board each vessel, it would be a good practice to contact them in advance. We were not aware of this, but we ran into very helpful staff of Customs, which simply came with us to Uluguan bay to make boat inspection and issue clearance.
Clearance cost was 2500 pesos + transport back for the officer. All institutions very polite and helpful.

Palawan has 1/4 of all the islands in the Philippines – numbering 1780 – and is inhabited by only 1% of the total population. The cruising is top class and as good as you will find anywhere worldwide in tropical cruising grounds.
