The Namibian Dollar is at parity with the South African Rand and Rand notes are normally acceptable.

The import/export of N$ is restricted to N$500. Namibian currency is not accepted outside the country.

Foreign currency must be declared on arrival.

MasterCard and Visa are the most widely accepted credit cards.

The local banks all have ATMs and credit cards (VISA and MasterCard) are accepted at the major retailers (service stations, grocery stores, hardware store, etc.).

Prices:

Prices are generally the same or a little above those of South Africa. Accommodation and tourist meals are about double.

Many purchases in Namibia will include 15% "sales" tax (VAT).
