Penang - Activities, Attractions & Shopping

Dec 06, 2018

Hiring a motorcycle is a good way to explore the resort area of Batu Ferringhi on Penang’s north coast.

Penang Hill in the center of the island has a railway which takes you close to the 2,723-foot summit. It was from here the Union Jack fluttered when Penang was one of the crown jewels of the British Empire. To relive this period of colonial "glory", you can enjoy a Cornish cream tea at David Brown’s, the "quintessential British restaurant and tea terraces" on Strawberry Hill.

Walking through the colorful streets, Little India and Chinatown, unique street-art bursts around every corner.

The Penang Open Air War Museum built in the 1930s and voted by National Geographic as one of the top 10 most haunted places in Asia, has now re-opened to the public. After World War II the fortress was left abandoned in its original condition. Underground tunnels, bunkers, torture rooms, and bullet holes remain, as well as the boots of fallen soldiers.
