Maurole, on the northern shores of Flores, is a small market town in the province of Ende. In addition to the weekly market, there are a few small shops sell basic supplies. International tourists rarely stop in the village.
Adventurous cruisers can organise a tour to visit some of the many volcanoes on Flores or the traditional village of Bena in the district of Ngada, where other traditional hamlets located.
Bena is reported to be one of the longest surviving villages still preserving the inherited rituals and lifestyles of their forefathers.

We anchored at Maurole recently as part of the Wonderful Sail 2 Indonesia Rally itinerary. Vincent is an exceptionally good guide at Maurole – he speaks English well, is totally honest and does not inflate charges. He took us on a tour of small villages outside Maurole where palm sugar and arak are made and explained the processes clearly. Highly recommend him. Vincent can be contacted on +62 813 3982 0739.
