Tanimbar Islands - Docking

Jul 07, 2024

Anchorages:

Saumlaki

Anchor between the two jetties in 18 meters in sand/mud, or in deeper water north of the new jetty.

The Hotel Harapan Indah has a dinghy dock which is accessible at most states of tide although not at very low tide. Approach carefully when the water level is low. Find the hotel by looking for the church above it. The hotel has a deck overlooking the water with two sets of steps leading down the dock. The hotel has a restaurant.

There is a good fish market and general market ashore. Just across the road from the hotel is a shop that sells water in 5-gallon containers. There is also a hardware store near the hotel (open mornings only). Fuel from the fuel station one km north of the town center.

Lutur Harbour

Good shelter from all directions. The holding is mud in about seven meters. Approach from the north towards the green beacon (may be lit) marking the entrance. Beware the reefs on either side of the entrance, also a line of piles from an old jetty reaching halfway across the bay from Lutur town, some isolated groups of piles in the bay and large areas of fishing nets.

There is a market and some shops here.

Bulu Village

Anchorage north of the village at 07° 14.9’S, 131° 28.1’E

Quiet anchorage in nine meters in the mud. Exposed to the south. Reefs each side of the entrance.
