Mangareva - Communications

May 30, 2024

Cruiser reports (February 2023) indicate that internet connectivity is "truly awful" and "horrendously bad".  It is satellite communications only.  You may be able to get a SIM/Data card from the Post Office, but only if the network is not full. If coming from elsewhere in FP, try to arrive with a SIM card from another island.

You can buy a WiFi card from the Post Office - which only works at the Post Office and costs US$20 for five hours.  There are a couple of other WiFi spots in Rikitea, but as soon as one or two people start using them, they become overloaded. Early morning seems to be the best time.
