Los Gigantes - Docking

Oct 25, 2018

Entrance:

Puerto de Los Gigantes is dwarfed by the sheer cliffs of Los Gigantes.

With a dogleg entrance, it is important to keep a good watch on vessels leaving and entering the marina.

The marina monitors VHF channel 9 permanently and skippers are advised to call up the harbor before entering. The post office is in the control tower on the port side as one enters, at the end of the inner mole by the receiving dock. Yachts can clear in during office hours, 0900-1900 seven days a week, all formalities were completed in the control tower. Outside of hours, yachts should wait at the receiving dock.

Marina Information:

Beware of constantly moving sands inside the harbor which can reduce the depth to less than 2m at low tide. Significant swell at the entrance can make the entrance untenable. For this reason, it is not advisable to enter outside office hours as they are then unable to advise you on a safe approach to the visitors' berths.

The marina is very prone to surge and if a severe storm is a forecast then yachts may be advised to leave the marina. Unless the conditions are a very good entry to the marina should not be attempted and departure can be equally hazardous.
