Koh Samui - Clearance

May 30, 2019

See the main Formalities page for full details.

Location of Offices:

Customs and the Harbour Master are located near the jetty at Ao Nathon, Samui.

Koh Samui Immigration office is located in new offices on the north coast of Samui at Soi 1, Maenam (easily found on Google Maps).

General Process:

Check in/out at Customs, Harbour Captain and Immigration is relatively straightforward.

It has been reported that the Harbour Captain here asks for a "personal fee“ of THB 500 for each clear-in / clear-out. Negotiation, therefore, is required.

Cruisers report that certain Customs officials here are more strict than others. If wanting to cruise the Gulf of Thailand it is probably a better choice for clearing into Thailand than Bangkok, whose Customs vehemently stick to the letter of the law. Here, you may or may not get the length of stay you want depending on which official you encounter (and bearing in mind the new laws re. restricted stay for boats and crew).
