Goteborg - Docking

Dec 08, 2015

It is possible to find a quiet anchorage in the outer islands of the approaches and there are several marinas on the west coast of the mainland, just south of the river entrance. The heart of the city also houses a marina mainly for visitors. This last identified by a very tall, distinctive red and white building.

The river passing through the city leads on the waterway generally known as the Gota Canal, allowing an inland passage through to the Baltic. This 337 km (210 mile) route is an interesting cruising ground of its own.

For a quieter (and cheaper) marina option, there are several on the islands of the archipelago. They all have good transport links to the city. There are several to choose from:-

Donsö Harbour: On the west coast of the Island, approximately 12nm S of the Gota River entrance.

Styrsö Bratten: On the NE corner of Styrso island.

Styrsö Tången: On the NW corner of Styrso island.

Styrsö Sandvik: Also on the NW coast of Styrso, about 0.8 kms (0.5 miles) from Tången.

Klava Guest Harbour: on the southern coast of the island of Hönö in the northern archipelago. About 10NM W of the Gota River entrance.

Vrångö Guest Harbour: On the west coast of this island, which lies south of Styrsö.

Öckerö: This has a large marina on the SE side of the island where it is connected to Hönö.
