Mail

Every town will have a post office (PTT on a yellow background). Stamps are sold here and also at outlets called "Estancos" (old Tabac dispensing shops). Marinas will often hold mail for you if you have booked a berth there, however always call in advance to be sure.

Mobiles and Internet

There are four main operators in Spain: Movistar, Vodafone, Orange and Yoigo. Network coverage and Internet speeds are average throughout the entire country and good in main towns and cities.

Spain is part of the EU roaming pact - which means its prepaid SIM cards (“Karte” or “SIM”) can be used in other EU countries at similar rates and European cruisers can easily use their own phones in Spain just like they would at home, to make calls as well as browse the internet.

All four operators offer prepaid SIM cards which you can buy from shops, supermarkets, kiosks, pharmacies and official outlets, as well as at the international airports. 2G, 3G and 4G plans are available on all networks for unlocked GSM phones. All you need to buy a SIM card is show your passport, and your telephone number is already active when you purchase it. Ask the sellers to set up the SIM card for you, because they will know how to do it. To add credit, there are several prepaid card machines around various towns and cities, and vouchers are stocked in shops and supermarkets.

WiFi tends to be available in most cafes & restaurants as long as you are a customer (pronounced “wee-fee” in Spanish). Many marinas now have WiFi, although this doesn’t always extend to all pontoons and may only be available near the marina office.
