Santa Ponsa (Mallorca) - Docking

Jul 03, 2018

Access to the cove is easy in all weathers.

Anchoring

The main anchoring area is in the south of the bay and is separated to the north by shallows marked by a buoy to the west and a pole to the east. Take great care, the shallows start immediately with the buoy and extend to the area around it and towards the east. It is wise to give the area a wide berth.

Anchor in 4m +/- however space is tight during the Summer months. Good holding in sand, although elsewhere in the bay the bottom is covered in this Posidonia, so always be sure to drop your anchor in sand.

It is also possible to anchor in the north of the bay, although this area suffers from the wake of passing ferries and motorboats.

Getting ashore will mean landing the dinghy on the beach - avoiding the swimmers. There are some other places on the sides of the harbour, but local residents try to discourage dinghies tying up.

Marinas

The alternative is to berth in the yacht club marina. This is in a narrow sheltered inlet, surrounded by gardens, which accommodates 500+ boats up to 20m in length. The fuel dock is also the waiting pontoon. The yacht clubhouses cafes, restaurants, a diving school and specialised shops. This marina is reported to be expensive.

The fuel berth here will provide water for yachts at anchor, however, they prefer you buy some fuel as well.

A new marina has opened just around the corner from Santa Ponsa in Port Adriano (see details below). This is much cheaper (for now) than the yacht club.

Another alternative is Puerto Andraitx, about 5nm north-west of Santa Ponsa.

The main warehouse for "Yacht Centre Palma" is located in Santa Ponsa, a very good source of chandlery items.
