Peru Weather for Sailors

Peru has a diverse climate due to the presence of the Andes Mountain Range and its rugged geography. The coastal region has an arid climate. Heavy rains occur from December to April, especially in the higher areas. The Andean highlands have two seasons: summer (April to October) and winter (November to March). The two distinct seasons in the Amazon are the low-rainfall season (April to October) and the rainy season (November to March), which features a lot of precipitation.

The climate of coastal Peru is greatly influenced by the cold Humboldt current, which keeps temperatures cool throughout the year and often produces coastal fog. There is very little rain along the coast which is arid and desert-like. The prevailing winds are south or southeasterly and usually light.
