San Juan del Sur - Boatyards

May 01, 2018

Haul out and dry dock storage is possible in the local shipyard. Although it caters primarily to the fishing fleet, cruisers have reported that this is a very secure place to store your boat with lots of services, and the yard manager Carlos Luis is very helpful.

No travel lift but a crane will pull a 45-50' boat out for approx. $450. Boats with a draft over 2.43 meters (7.9 feet) cannot be hauled out due to the limited depth near the break wall (only enough water for a 1.8 meter (six feet) draft about once a month).

Note: In November 2012 the crane had broken down and had no date given as to when it would be fixed.

Dry storage is US$400 per month ($106 per month last year) for a 39-foot sailboat. Other prices are from December 2011: Good labor reported at $7-8/day. It is $150 for wood to make a stand, power is $5 per day, water is available at a fee, but both are between 150 to 300 feet away.
