Mamoudzou is the main town and has a few supermarkets in the centre itself, at Kaweni and also the Cora shopping centre.
There is a big covered market at by the ferry landing.
In 2010 a new, huge closed market was opened near the barge in Mamoudzou.
Visit the tourist office (to the right of the ferry terminal) and obtain a map, which will show you the main shops. They are very friendly and helpful.
In spite of some supermarkets being in downtown Mamoudzou and Pamanzi, it is worth taking a taxi to the Mega-Supermarche called "Cora", some 10 km out of Mamoudzou town where you can find well stocked shops, and a full range of foods in the air-conditioned supermarket itself. Credit cards like VISA and MasterCard are accepted.
