Lamu - Docking

Aug 16, 2017

North of the town is the white sandy Shela beach. Yachts can anchor off the beach, but take care on the approach as there are unmarked rocks.

It is not advisable to anchor off Peponi as there are strong tidal currents, particularly during springs, where the holding is indifferent. It is better to anchor off Shela.

Facilities in Lamu are poor. Fuel and water have to be taken in jerrycans and there are only limited food supplies with the exception of fresh produce.
