Ogasawara Islands (Bonin Islands) - Clearance

Dec 05, 2023

Chichijima has the intriguing status of being both a closed port and a port of entry.

It's important to note that while there are officials here to handle clear-ins and, especially, clear-outs, they are not authorized to issue Naikosenpaku.

See Japan Entry Formalities for more details.

Technically, visiting yachts must get Naikosenpaku at the first POE, so ideally, choose a different port for your first entry into Japan. If you have to clear in here and there's no alternative, you may be able to find a co-operative official in some other port who can assist with Naikosenpaku - an agent can help with this.

General Process:

Upon entry, the Coast Guard will direct you to a slot on the concrete pier (fender well) and then you will be visited by all the normal government representatives.
