Cap Haitien / Labadie - Docking

Jan 07, 2018

Cap-Haitien

There are no marina facilities in Cap-Haitien, but the port is secure and may be used by private yachts. Ensure that you are out of the way of any larger ships that may be arriving.

Anchoring in Cap-Haitien is not advised. Garbage/rubbish is a problem and cruisers have reported pulling up all manner of objects and tangled things from the bottom.

Local boats will not be lit at night. Fishing floats are usually just bottles tied together. It is best to avoid any flotsam on the surface: it may be attached to something on the bottom.

Local Assistance

A recent report indicated there is a man named Thomas (also known as "Ketchup") who is extremely helpful to cruisers. He works in some capacity at the docks. Ask for him on arrival. Thomas can arrange guardinage, grocery/market trips, and travel to the Citadelle.

Labadie

Anchorage at Labadie is secure and stable, though there is a minor swell most of the time. Anchor behind the breakwater and cruise terminal in about 6m on good mud.

There are other common anchorages just around the corner (east) from Labadie. The area will usually have some tourist boat activity, but not as active as the main bay. Some of the bays may have restrictions on anchoring or be semi-private (for businesses related to the cruise terminal). It is good form to ask before anchoring in someone's front yard, of course.
