As Suez is primarily a port of transit, facilities for yachts are limited and what is available is centred on the yacht club, where a few local sailors keep their boats.
There are very few shops in Port Tewfik, which is a residential area, and for any shopping, one has to take a taxi into Suez town about 2 km away.
Note: Mechanical Dockyard is a suitable shipyard for yachts.

The Port Tewfick Yacht Club is quite rough. We cannot recommend Egyptian water. There is no WiFi, and the old guy is still outside the gates. Avoid him, he is trouble.
You can catch a bus on the main road to town for one Egyptian Pound per passenger.
On the right-hand side, there is a prominent Vodaphone shop on the corner for SIM cards.
Three blocks towards town, on a side street, there is an excellent grocery shop. They sell good nuts and dried fruits at low prices. Other good shops are nearby.
As we cleared here we could not visit Ismailia, but the facilities here are filthy too.
There are not many yachts making this transit, it is a matter of necessity!
We have just completed a northerly transit of the Suez Canal.
Our passage up the Red Sea from Sri Lanka was uneventful as far as any piracy activity was concerned.
We spent a month in Aqaba, Jordan, where they are very gracious hosts, and we can recommend this detour.
Fuel is also cheaper than in Egypt.
Egypt was bit of an ordeal, one young pilot was good to Ismailia.
The second pilot to Port Said was a cowboy who narrowly missed navigation markers a couple of times. He was preoccupied with his mobile phone, and then wanted to disembark onto a heavy pilot boat while we were underway.
After our near misses he wanted a reference from us, and I have actually lodged a complaint with the SCA.

I received an email from the Prince of the Red Sea, whom I regard as the most reliable agent for the Suez Canal. He informed me that boats have started arriving from the Indian Ocean although not in large numbers he has been handling quite a few of them during the last couple of months.
