Maria La Gorda - Docking

Apr 09, 2018

The anchorage is on the SW coast of the mainland. It is on the east side of a very wide bay and is exposed, potentially, to everything other than easterlies.

This area is part of the Cabo Corrientes Natural Reserve and the mooring field is among coral and care needs to be taken.

Anchoring in front of Marina Gaviota (Dive Resort) is no longer permitted, however, they now provide mooring balls in front of the resort for a small nightly charge. Visitor buoys are located to the left of the resort complex, those in front of the resort are for the local scuba boats and mark the dive site. Pay mooring fees at the resort reception.

Cruisers are welcome to leave their dinghies at the resort dive boat dock, which is adequate but very exposed to wind and waves. Be sure to drive around the dive site buoys off the resort when heading for the dock, not drive directly through the dive site. The beach is very rocky and not suitable for getting ashore.

Cruisers are welcome at the dive resort which offers restaurants, rooms, a bar, and laundry. There is no fuel available, but jerry jug water is possible. Getting around has to be by hire car (which can be arranged through the resort) as there are no public transport links.
