Corralejo - Local Customs

Jan 10, 2023

Description:

This is a busy ferry port at the northern extremity of Fuerteventura, popular with tourists and known for its excellent windsurfing and kite-surfing.  The harbour is on the northeast coast of the island and is partly sheltered by Isla de Lobos.

Owned by Puertos Canarios, this is a government-run port – https://puertoscanarios.es/

Entrance Notes & Cautions:

The approach to Corralejo calls for care as there are various outlying dangers. There are reefs to the north and north-west of the harbour entrance. In Addition, car ferries entering or leaving the ferry dock are not easily visible (at night the ferry dock is lit by bright floodlights)

When approaching along the southern end of Isla de Lobos, watch out for rocks extending more than 200 meters from the shore.  In north and northeast winds, high waves and strong winds form in the El Rio Strait between Corralejo and Isla de Lobos.

Shallow waters extend on both sides of the harbour about 400 - 500 meters out to sea.  There are also fish farms on the eastern side of Isla de Lobos, marked by yellow buoys.
