Tofino - Restrictions

Dec 02, 2022

Description:

Tofino is one of two major ports on the West coast of Vancouver Island, the other being nearby Ucluelet.

It is a surfing hot spot and popular tourist destination with large hospitality developments. It is also a good jumping off point for the Hot Springs Cove which can be done in most weather conditions via the sheltered inside route or an open offshore route.

Entrance Notes and Cautions:

The approach to Tofino from open waters is via Lennard Island lighthouse - Templar Channel (bouncy in a southerly flow). Pay attention to shallow areas in the Templar Channel.

A second option in a strong southerly flow would be Father Charles Channel which is a little more protected and deeper, but longer route to Tofino.

Pay attention to ocean currents when anchoring in Tofino area.

Cruiser Highlights:

Tofino offers good provisioning, fuel, propane and marinas (limited). Internet is available, cell towers nearby, good cell/data signal. It also offers plenty of whale watching tours and tourism activities during the summer.

Position:

49°09'17.3"N, 125°54'02.2"W
