The island is connected to the mainland by air and a car and passenger ferry service from Penneshaw. The ferry journey takes approximately 45 minutes from Cape Jervis which is about a two hour drive from Adelaide on the Fleurieu Peninsula.

Regional Express Airlines and Qantas provide services to Kangaroo Island. The 30 minute flight operates between the main terminal at the Adelaide Airport and Kangaroo Island Airport.
