MIGRANTS

The Aegean Sea remains a dangerous passage for migrants traveling from North Africa and the Middle East toward Europe. Ayvalik, NW Turkey, just 8 nautical miles from the Greek island of Lesvos, is a frequent hotspot for crossings. The Turkish Coast Guard regularly conducts rescue and interception operations in the area.
Mediterranean cruisers should be prepared for encountering migrants at sea. Understanding how to respond safely can make a critical difference.

ORCA

Since 2020 orcas have been interacting with yachts under 15m off the coast of Gibraltar, SW Spain, NW Spain and even Brittany, France.
